Her once-loving husband grows distant and volatile. The widow down the road keeps spewing vague accusations. Not even their new friends—a free-spirited couple living on the property—can help Hayley shake the creeping sense that something is off.

As winter edges closer, Hayley discovers that her sanctuary is anything but safe. Trapped and isolated, she faces a terrifying in trying to escape her past, she may have run straight into something far more dangerous.

My Review:

To begin with, I’d like to thank Netgalley for supplying an ARC of this book to me. I greatly appreciate it! Netgalley is a platform where you can request ebook and audiobook ARCs, and it is completely free to use! I highly recommend trying it out!

I listened to this as an audiobook rather than reading it, and I think that affects the overall experience. I did enjoy this book, but I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it.

Sometimes, it can be hard to get past the voices that the narrator does for each character. Putting that aside, however, it was a good story.

a twisty, mystery/thriller

There was a lot happening to our main character. A lot happened in her life, which caused her to be the center of attention in the media. And when you are made famous, even for a short amount of time, it can be hard to know if people like you for you or for your popularity.

But I struggled to be invested in that aspect of her life, and I don’t know if that’s because I was a little detached from the audiobook, or if the story didn’t give us enough time to care about it.

In conclusion:

It’s a good mystery/thriller read. I didn’t predict the ending, and there were a few twists I didn’t see coming. So overall, I do recommend it. But if you are anything like me, I’d say physically read it rather than listen to the audiobook.
